Air India’s Official Twitter Handle Hacked By Turkish Group, Account Restored Later

With the increasing digitization, the threat of hacking has also increased a lot and the latest target of hackers was the official twitter handle of Air India.

A group of Turkish hackers, “Ayyildiz Tim” has claimed that they were behind this cyberattack while another twitter account of the same group posted screenshots of the tweets which were made by the hacker group.

For some time, the twitter handle of Air India showed a tweet which announced the cancellation of all Air India flights and suggested taking Turkish Airlines. The blue tick was removed by the Twitter as it is the policy of the company to remove the blue tick from verified accounts if they are compromised. However, the good news was that the account was restored in a short time.

After getting restored, Air India made this tweet from its official twitter handle,

“Early today Air India twitter handle was hacked. We would like to inform our passengers, that the handle is fully functional now. Further there is no cyber security threat on this handle and security measures have been taken. Thank you Twitter, Twitter India.”

The airlines also issued a statement which read,

“The Air India official twitter handle @airtindiain has been hacked late last night with malafide intent to mislead passengers. Air India immediately swung into action and took up the matter with the twitter authorities. All malicious content was removed on a war-footing. It is expected that normalcy would be restored soon. All Air India flights are operating as per schedule. Passengers are requested to ignore any misleading and mischievous communication on our operations.”

Not just Air India, but social media accounts of some Indian officials have also been hacked by the hackers from other countries. The cyber security is undoubtedly a great area of concern and a lot needs to be done in this regard.
