Longer Waiting Periods, OTP Delivery, And Aadhaar Checks, Big Updates Are Coming For Every LPG User.
Starting May 1, 2026, the government is introducing important changes to LPG cylinder booking and delivery rules across India. These updates aim to improve transparency, reduce misuse, and make the system more efficient for everyone.
One of the biggest changes is the increase in the waiting
period between two bookings. Earlier, customers could book a refill after 21
days. Now, this gap has been extended to 25 days in urban areas and can go up
to 45 days in rural regions. This step is mainly to prevent hoarding and ensure
fair distribution of cylinders.
Another major update is the introduction of mandatory
OTP-based delivery authentication, also called Delivery Authentication Code
(DAC). When your cylinder is delivered, you will receive a one-time password on
your registered mobile number. You must share this OTP with the delivery person
to complete the process. Without it, the cylinder will not be handed over.
The system is also becoming stricter. If someone tries to
book a cylinder before the allowed time gap of 25 or 45 days, the request will
be automatically blocked. This means no early bookings will be accepted under
any circumstances.
For beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
(PMUY), Aadhaar-based eKYC is now compulsory. Users must complete biometric
verification to continue receiving subsidies, especially from the eighth refill
onwards.
There is also a push toward cleaner fuel alternatives.
Households that already have access to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) may see their
LPG supply discontinued after three months.
Overall, these changes are designed to make LPG distribution more transparent, controlled, and fair for all users.
